Eyelid Surgery

“Eyes are the window to the soul”—a phrase that perfectly sums up how we feel when our gaze plunges into another.

However the signs of aging can take a toll on our facial appearance, particularly around the eyes, and make us look older than we genuinely feel. You may be often asked if you are tired, even when you are not. This is because the appearance of your eyelids may be adding years to the look of your face.

Eyelid cosmetic surgery—also medically known as blepharoplasty—is a type of plastic surgery treatment that can give you a radiant, more youthful look. Also referred to as eye bag removal, eyelid surgery is a simple, straightforward procedure, which usually takes between one to three hours to complete and is often performed as a day-case treatment.

The length of the surgery will depend whether you wish to have upper lids, lower lids—or both together.

The goal of an eyelid surgery is to remove excess skin and fat that may grow as a result of aging, gravity and sun exposure.

Eyelid surgery procedure

During eyelid surgery in Turkey, our plastic surgeon will make a small incision where the natural crease should be—in the upper lids or below the lash line in the lower lids—depending on the type of eyelid surgery you are having. The excess skin is excised and the extra fat is removed from the upper and lower eyelid—a process known as bag eyelid removal. Caution is exercised when removing more tissue from the upper outer corners to give the best improvement where the wrinkling in the skin is most concentrated. The incisions are, then, closed, leaving a fine scar that is becomes less visible with time, as they are placed within the normal creases and folds of the upper and lower eyelids.

The result is a younger, more radiant appearance of the eyes and face—and in some cases—widening of visual fields that might have been affected due to excessive upper lid skin.

While blepharoplasty can resolve concerns regarding eyelids, it will not change the position eyebrows. Therefore, some patients may benefit from a eyebrow lift Turkey to correct the drooping of eyebrows.

Types of eyelid surgery

There are various types of eyelid surgery in Turkey to meet the diverse needs of patients. FlyHealth cosmetic surgery specialists offer extensive experience with all types of blepharoplasty procedures.

If the upper eyelids are sagging extensively or appearing to be puffy and inflated due to excess fat tissue, it can negatively affect a person’s facial appearance, self-confidence and overall self-image. With upper eyelid surgery, the surgeon will remove excess skin and fat tissue and the remaining skin of the upper eyelid can be pulled tight and elevated to that it gives you a more healthier and youthful look. To help minimize or eliminate visible scarring, the incision will traditionally be placed in the upper crease of the eyelid.

Sagging or puffy lower eyelids, as well as fat bags, can be corrected through lower eyelid surgery. After making an incision directly beneath the lower eyelash so that is hidden, excess skin and fat tissue is removed. If necessary, fat can also be redistributed to produce a more even, proportionate appearance. Lower eyelids surgery can have a dramatic impact on a person’s facial appearance.

Recovery from eyelid surgery

On the first day of eyelid surgery in Turkey, you should apply cold packs each hour you are awake, for about 10-15 minutes at a time. The ice works on reducing the swelling and keep bruising to a minimum. On the second day, apply cold packs every few hours for about 10-15 minutes at a time.

Expect mid discomfort during the immediate recovery period of eyelid surgery.

As you recover, your eye area will be bruised and red with swollen eye, particularly during the first few days. The whites of the eyes also may become red. It may take up to a few weeks for healing to be complete, during which time you should not apply eye makeup. Often the sutures used for the surgery will dissolve on their own in four to seven days. If non-dissolvable sutures are employed, then the surgeon will remove them about a week after the procedure, depending on your unique situation.

The effort you put into recovery directly impacts the speed of your recovery—and the end result. The cosmetic surgeon may ask you to spend 4 days sitting sill and using frequent cold compresses. You can return to your normal routine after about a week. Healing times varies with each person and are effected by the extent of the procedure, as well as skin type. The surgeon will prescribe pain medication to alleviate any pain. It’s essential to avoid anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, naproxen or aspirin during your recovery period because they increase risk of bleeding.
