What Is Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is the abnormal growth of breasts in men. This growth has non-cancerous characteristics. However, the enlarged breast look in men can decrease their self-confidence and cause both physical and psychological problems. Men might feel distressed or even uneasy because of the look of their breasts. In most cases, men want to address this problem and reduce the size of their breasts. Gynecomastia might occur in one breast or both breasts. Also, the enlargement can be symmetrical or asymmetrical.
Is Gynecomastia Treatable?
Today, men suffering from gynecomastia can opt for surgical interventions to treat this problem. With liposuction and other cosmetic operations, gynecomastia is no longer a problem. This problem can be due to hormonal changes as well as medication use. Also, some diseases such as liver diseases or kidney diseases might disrupt the hormonal balance and can lead to gynecomastia. In these cases, men can consult with a cosmetic surgeon to learn about the treatment options. When it comes to treatment, there are two main approaches. One of the treatment methods is medication. The other treatment method to address the gynecomastia problem is to have surgery. The extend of the surgery will depend on the case and the surgery might be a mastectomy or a liposuction to remove the fat tissues.
Who Can Suffer from Gynecomastia?
Generally, gynecomastia is not related to high weight. Men in the normal weight range or even skinny men can experience enlarged breast problems. Since this problem is associated with hormonal imbalance and fat accumulation in the breast tissue, weight loss might not be a permanent solution. In addition to that, the medication treatment for the early stages of gynecomastia might not help achieve permanent results. The medication treatment aims to reduce the fat tissue around the breast area but this method is not often suitable for severe cases. Here, a cosmetic procedure can permanently solve this problem by removing the fat tissues in the breast area.
How Is Gynecomastia Procedure Operated?
The gynecomastia procedure requires removing the fat tissue and the glandular breast tissue. For this procedure, mastectomy or mastectomy combined with liposuction methods is preferred. The suitable method will be selected by the surgeon after the examination. Each patient can suffer from a different degree of enlarged breast tissue. For this reason, it is important to evaluate each patient carefully and choose the best procedure to address the problem. The important thing to treat gynecomastia is to wait until puberty is completed. Also, it is important not to mix the gynecomastia with pseudo gynecomastia which is often caused by obesity.
