What is Hair Transplantation?
One of the most prevalent cosmetic issues nowadays is hair loss. Women regularly deal with this issue, despite the perception that males do it more often. In a normal individual, it is normal to lose up to 100 strands of hair per day. A specialist’s advice should be sought in situations that exceed this number. Hair transplantation is an aesthetic surgical operation that occurs by transferring the hair follicles extracted from the nape area, which is coded not to fall out due to the genetic structure of the individual, with a strong structure and high hair density, to the area that has suffered hair loss.
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method is widely used in hair transplantation in accordance with the developing technology. In this method, a device called Micromotor is used to remove the hair follicles from the donor area, thanks to this device, the root removal process takes a short time and there is no scar or swelling in the donor area. In the hair transplantation process performed with the FUE method, the number of hair follicles grows and the desired result is achieved at a rate of 95%.
What are the Basic Stages of Hair Transplantation?
Collection of Hair Roots
The nape area, where the hair follicles are most resistant to shedding, is preferred as the first donor area. After the area is prepared for the procedure, the hair follicles are collected one by one with the FUE motor. Each of these roots, also known as grafts, contains on average 2–3 hairs.
Opening The Channels
Small incisions are made to transfer the hair follicles collected one by one to the needed area. The size and depth of these incisions should be compatible with the graft taken. The angle of the opened channels should be adjusted very well to achieve a natural appearance.
Transplantation of Hair Roots
At this point, the roots are carefully inserted one by one into the channels that have been opened.
Hair Transplantation and After
Hair transplant operations take an average of 6-8 hours. Since the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, the feeling of pain is minimal. Another method of anesthesia is sedation. This anesthesia method can be preferred in patients with a high sense of anxiety and worry.
After the operation, a special washing process is applied to the head for 10 days. From the 15th day after the operation, the transplanted hair falls out for 2 months. However, this situation is temporary and starts to appear gradually from the 3rd month. On average, between the 9th and 12th months, all hair will have completed its growth.
First Night After Hair Transplantation
When you leave the hospital after the operation, you should apply a bandage to your donor area and wear a forehead band to prevent swelling after the operation.
The tiny crusts and slight redness that will occur in the transplanted area and the donor area will disappear within 15 days.
You may feel swelling, itching, and mild pain after the operation. These symptoms can be relieved with ice applications, emollient lotions, and, if necessary, mild symptom relief medications recommended by your doctor.
